Kristen Godwin, Sam Houston School, $1,000: Purchase of storybooks and equipment presenting measurement objectives for fourth grade in a memorable and enjoyable way.

Nina Jones, Sadie Droddy, Rhonda Melancon, Tyrrell School, $1,000: school-wide reading program based on a "reading mart" that rewards students for reading books.  All levels.

Victor Fulton, Memorial High School, $1,000: Purchase of 151 Merriam-Webster School Dictionaries, geared toward high school students, for individual use in high school English classes.

Ann Harrell, Wheatley, $700: Purchase of books and communication cards to enable nonverbal students and those with communication problems to learn to communicate in words and/or pictures

 

Patsy Goss, Phyllis Dovalina, Kathleen Woods, Kathy Midgette, Patricia O'Neal, Christine Hood, Elaine Earl, Dowling School, $1,000: Outdoor science lab/nature center/pond: Fulfillment of objectives required by the district and state for science with observations, investigations, hands-on activities for various grades.

Leah Gillam, Veronica Mondello, Jayvonne Fontenot, Maria Cerda, Arnulfo Hernandez, Franklin School, $900: Butterfly Pavilion sets for each second-grade classroom and life-cycle models of the frog, butterfly, chicken, and ladybug.

Rebecca Montgomery, DeQueen School, $1,000: Purchase of equipment and frog eggs to create a year-long rain forest science project for kindergartners to follow the metamorphosis of the frog.

Carkenda Griffin, Woodrow Wilson School, $1,000: Purchase of a Pro-Scope USB Microscope 50X, complete kit with case.  Wilson lost full use of science lab in the hurricane.  Purchase will help eighth-graders prepare for TAKS/lifelong learning by providing stimulating hands-on science.

Rhonda Minter, Woodrow Wilson School, $1,000: Purchase of Mystery I, Suspense I, and Passages 2000 classroom sets to motivate learning-disabled or low level readers to increase their reading fluency and read for pleasure.
